Week 6- Exploring Berlin

Now that school has started and things are starting to calm down a little bit, my friends and I decided to take advantage of some sunny days and explore a few spots in nature around Berlin. We walked around Tiergarten, which is a huge park near the center of Berlin, and found a lot of good spots along the rivers and lakes for a picnic or just a day of hanging out in the sun. The next time I come to Tiergarten I am definitely going to rent a bike because it’s necessary if you want to see it in its entirety.

After having lunch, we decided to explore Grunewald, a forest that also contains an abandoned German listening post from World War II called Teufelsberg. We hiked for about an hour through the woods and to the top of the hill and set up a spot to relax, drink, and enjoy the view until sunset. There was a fee to actually enter the listening post and we decided instead to keep hiking but it is something that I might come back to in the future in order to see the graffiti art and the view of Berlin from the top of the post. It was a nice change of pace to just be surrounded by friends and just relaxing. All of us international students are tired of the cold weather and are eagerly waiting for the warmth of spring to get here faster. More days like this to come!
